Sreekanteswaram Temple, located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, is one of the prominent Shiva temples in Kerala. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Sreekanteswaran, the temple attracts devotees seeking blessings for prosperity, health, and spiritual growth. It is renowned for its serene atmosphere and traditional Kerala architectural style.

The temple has a rich historical background and is believed to have been established centuries ago. Legends say that the idol of Lord Shiva here is self-manifested (Swayambhu), making the temple a powerful spiritual center. The temple’s name, Sreekanteswaram, comes from “Sreekanta,” another name of Lord Shiva, symbolizing auspiciousness and divinity.

The temple showcases traditional Kerala-style architecture with a sloping tiled roof, intricate wooden carvings, and a serene temple pond. The sanctum sanctorum (Sreekovil) houses the main deity in a beautifully adorned granite idol. The temple also features smaller shrines for Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganapathi.
