Kumaranalloor Devi Temple, located near Kottayam in Kerala, is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy (Devi) and is considered one of the 108 Durga temples in the state. The temple holds immense spiritual, historical, and architectural significance, attracting devotees from across South India.

The presiding deity, Sree Durga Devi, is worshipped here in the form of Bhadrakali, symbolizing the divine mother’s power and protection. The temple’s unique sanctum sanctorum (Sreekovil) has a distinctive Gajaprishta (elephant-back) shape, a rare architectural style found in ancient Kerala temples. The temple also houses sub-deities such as Lord Ganesha, Lord Subrahmanya, and Nagaraja.

Kumaranalloor Devi Temple is renowned for its grand Panthrandu Vilakku Mahotsavam (Twelve Lamp Festival) held annually in November–December, which draws thousands of devotees and pilgrims. The festival highlights include traditional art forms, processions, and rituals steeped in Kerala’s cultural heritage.

Legend says that the temple’s origin is linked to Lord Subrahmanya’s journey from Udayanapuram, leading to the divine presence of Devi at Kumaranalloor. The name “Kumaranalloor” itself is derived from this legend, meaning “the place where Kumara (Lord Subrahmanya) stayed.”

The temple stands as a shining example of Kerala’s devotion to the Mother Goddess, combining deep spirituality, classical art, and ancient architectural grandeur.
