Temple Image

Ernakulam Shiva Temple, popularly known as Ernakulathappan Temple, is one of the major ancient temples in Kerala, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in the heart of Kochi city, within the Durbar Hall Ground premises. The temple is considered one of the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala consecrated by Lord Parasurama.

The main deity, Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the form of Lingam, facing west towards the Arabian Sea. The Lingam here represents Shiva as the Supreme Lord, bestowing blessings and protection upon devotees. Inside the sanctum, there is also a beautiful image of Goddess Parvathi.

According to legend, Lord Parasurama installed the idol of Lord Shiva at this place during his mission to establish 108 Shiva temples across Kerala. The temple was historically under the administration of the Cochin Royal Family, who considered Lord Ernakulathappan their presiding deity.
